Where to stay before a flight from Heathrow Terminal 5 if you prefer a calm, short start

The short answer: Pay for the covered walkway if you can. It takes out the bus, the kerb and the waiting, which is where most of the strain on the morning comes from.

Who it suits
Anyone who wants the shortest, calmest route, and anyone who finds luggage, stairs or waiting hard work.
Why we would choose it
A covered walkway joins the hotel to Terminal 5 in under five minutes. There is no bus to meet, no ticket to buy and no change of vehicle with bags.
The compromise
Usually the dearest stay at Terminal 5, and eating in the hotel is priced to match.
Worth paying more?
Yes, if the strain of the morning is what you are trying to avoid. The extra pays for removing the steps in the middle.

Typical total

Who it suits
Travellers who can manage a short walk at each end and want a lower rate without a timetable.
Why we would choose it
The pod runs from beside the hotel from 04:00, with no timetable to meet, and takes five minutes. It is the nearest thing to walking.
The compromise
Trolleys are left before the pod station barriers, and the pod arrives in the car park, not at check-in, so there are two walks to do with your bags.
Worth paying more?
For someone who finds walking with bags hard, yes, move up to the covered walkway. If a short walk is fine, this is good value.

Typical total
£124–£254
Who it suits
Travellers with a mid-morning flight who want a full-service hotel and are comfortable boarding a bus.
Why we would choose it
A full-service hotel with the Hotel Hoppa bus to Terminal 5 from 04:00 to midnight, and a ride of about ten minutes.
The compromise
The bus runs about every half hour, so there is a wait, and you board and get off with your luggage at both ends.
Worth paying more?
For an early flight or reduced mobility, yes, we would pay the extra for one of the two above.
