Where to stay on an overnight connection at Heathrow Terminal 5

The short answer: With about nine hours between flights, walk. By the time you clear immigration, rest and get back through security, a pod or bus ride is a real slice of your sleep.

Typical total
£170–£280
Who it suits
Connections of up to about ten hours, and anyone with an onward flight before 07:00.
Why we would choose it
A five minute covered walk each way, with nothing to catch. On a short gap that is the difference between a proper sleep and an uneasy few hours.
The compromise
Usually the highest rate on this list, for a room you may use for five or six hours.
Worth paying more?
Yes on a gap under about ten hours. Over that, the cheaper stays have time to earn back what they cost.

Who it suits
Connections of ten hours or more, with a flight after 07:00.
Why we would choose it
The pod takes five minutes and runs from 04:00 to 00:15, so a long gap absorbs the extra journey.
The compromise
The pod leaves from the Terminal 5 car park and stops at 00:15. Your flight must land before then, and you need to be moving again after 04:00.
Worth paying more?
Over the bus hotel, yes: the pod runs a little later and there is no timetable to meet.

Who it suits
Long connections of twelve hours or more with a mid-morning flight.
Why we would choose it
The Hotel Hoppa bus runs from 04:00 to midnight and takes about ten minutes, with a full-service hotel at the end.
The compromise
The bus comes about every half hour each way, so a short gap loses a good part of the night to waiting.
Worth paying more?
Only if your gap is long enough that the wait does not matter. On a short one, pay for the walk.
