Where to stay with a family before a flight from Heathrow Terminal 5

The short answer: Walk if you can afford to. With four of you the per-person pod stops being cheap, and a bus hotel with a group ticket works out better.

Typical total
£230–£350
Who it suits
Families with young children, a buggy or a lot of luggage, and any flight before 08:00.
Why we would choose it
You walk to Terminal 5 under cover with nothing to catch, and the family room has two double beds. Connecting rooms and cots are available.
The compromise
The dearest stay on this list by some distance, and a family room costs more again than a standard one.
Worth paying more?
Yes with small children or an early flight. Not having to get four people onto a bus is what you are paying for.

Who it suits
Families with older children and a flight from mid-morning.
Why we would choose it
Family rooms sleep four, connecting rooms are available, and a Hotel Hoppa group ticket keeps the transfer cheap for all of you.
The compromise
You are getting the whole family and its bags onto a bus that runs about every half hour.
Worth paying more?
Over the pod hotel, yes for four people: the room is built for a family and the transfer costs less.

Who it suits
Families of three, or four who are happy with a sofa bed.
Why we would choose it
The pod is quick and children tend to enjoy it. It runs from 04:00 with no timetable to meet.
The compromise
The Family Room sleeps only three. Four need the room with a sofa bed, and the pod is charged per person, so it costs four fares each way.
Worth paying more?
For four people, no. The pod fare closes most of the gap to the hotels above.
