Where to rest on a long layover at Heathrow Terminal 3

The short answer: The easiest long layover at Heathrow. One hotel is in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall and sells time by the hour, so you pay for the rest and little else.

Who it suits
Most long layovers at Terminal 3, of four hours or more.
Why we would choose it
It is in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall. You walk from arrivals to a bed in minutes, pay only for the hours you book, and you are back at departures just as quickly.
The compromise
A compact, functional hotel inside an airport terminal, not a full hotel, and landside, so you must be able to clear immigration.
Worth paying more?
This is about fit, not price. For a layover, a bed by the hour is usually what you want.

Who it suits
Layovers where you want a full hotel and a meal as well as a bed.
Why we would choose it
A full hotel reached through the central-area underpass in eight to ten minutes, under cover and with nothing to catch.
The compromise
A longer walk with bags than staying inside the terminal, and priced as a full night even if you use a few hours.
Worth paying more?
Only if you want more than a bed. For a rest alone, the Aerotel costs less.

Who it suits
Layovers of nine hours or more, with a flight after 07:00.
Why we would choose it
A full hotel a bus ride from the terminal, usually for much less, and a long layover has time for the journey.
The compromise
The bus runs about every half hour, so waiting takes a good part of a shorter layover.
Worth paying more?
For most layovers we would choose one of the two above. Choose this only if the layover is long.
