Where to rest on a long layover at Heathrow Terminal 2

The short answer: Book by the hour at the Aerotel, ten minutes from Terminal 2 by indoor walk, and pay only for the time you use. For a full-service hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn is joined to the terminal.

Typical total
£110–£180
Who it suits
Layovers of four to eight hours, where you want a bed and a shower and nothing more.
Why we would choose it
About ten minutes' indoor walk from Terminal 2 arrivals, and you pay only for the hours you book, from one hour up.
The compromise
A compact hotel in the neighbouring terminal, not a full hotel next to yours, and a longer walk with bags.
Worth paying more?
Choose it for the hours, not the price. It suits a layover better than a full-service hotel does.

Who it suits
Layovers where you want a full hotel and a meal as well as a bed.
Why we would choose it
A covered walkway takes you from Terminal 2 to the hotel in about five minutes each way, with a full hotel at the end of it.
The compromise
The only walkable full hotel for this terminal, and priced as a full night even if you use a few hours.
Worth paying more?
Only if you want more than a bed. For a rest alone, the Aerotel costs less.

Who it suits
Layovers of nine hours or more, with a flight after 07:00.
Why we would choose it
A full hotel a bus ride from the terminal, usually for much less, and a long layover has time for the journey.
The compromise
The bus runs from 04:00 to midnight about every half hour, so waiting takes a good part of a shorter layover.
Worth paying more?
Over a walkable hotel, only on a long layover. On a short one, the walk is worth paying for.
