Where to stay with a family before a flight from Sydney Airport Terminals 2 and 3

The short answer: Choose the room first, then the walk. The closest hotel to the domestic terminals has no room for four, so the best fit is a larger room a slightly longer walk away.

Who it suits
Families who want a proper room for four within walking distance of the domestic terminals.
Why we would choose it
A room with two double beds is listed at about 34 square metres, with connecting rooms and free cots. The hotel's owner describes it as opposite the Domestic terminal, and it runs a shuttle as a back-up.
The compromise
One listing puts the walk to the station at about 11 minutes, which is a long way with small children and bags. The shuttle carries a fee, about $6 a person by one guide.
Worth paying more?
Over the budget hotel next to the terminals, yes if you want space. Four people in 18 square metres is a squeeze.

Who it suits
Families keeping the cost down, on an early domestic flight.
Why we would choose it
A few minutes' walk from Terminals 2 and 3 by the airport's page, with a Family Room listed as one double bed and two singles.
The compromise
That room is listed at about 18 square metres for four people. It is a place to sleep, not to spread out.
Worth paying more?
This is the low-cost, shortest-walk choice. Pay more for space, not for location.

Why we would choose it
A room with two queen beds is listed as sleeping four, with connecting rooms and free cots. From our own stays the rooms are spacious and recently refreshed, with several places to eat and parking on site.
The compromise
It is not walkable. You depend on the hotel shuttle, which costs $13.50 a person each way, runs from 5am to 11pm only, and must be booked ahead.
Worth paying more?
For the room and the parking, yes. For the shortest morning, stay closer.

Why we would choose it
A room with two double beds is listed as sleeping four, in the precinct's only five-star hotel by one review.
The compromise
A 10 to 15 minute walk to the domestic terminals by one review, or a paid shuttle at about $7 a person.
Worth paying more?
Only if the hotel itself matters to you. The others get you to the terminal as easily.
