Where to stay on an overnight connection at Sydney Airport Terminal 1

The short answer: Stay inside the terminal or beside it. One hotel is inside Terminal 1, and another is 181 steps from check-in, so the gap goes on sleep and not on a transfer.

Totals are a typical room for one night plus getting to the hotel and back to the terminal, for two adults. Prices are the lowest and highest we found across the dates we sampled. A stay still shown as "To be confirmed" has a price or fare we could not confirm. Checked October 2026; your dates may cost more or less.

Typical total

Who it suits
Most overnight connections through Terminal 1, especially gaps of eight hours or less.
Why we would choose it
It is inside the terminal, at Arrivals B. No transfer in either direction, so the whole gap can go on sleep.
The compromise
A hotel inside a terminal, not a full hotel, with small rooms of 9 to 11 square metres for a double. It is outside the secure area, so you must clear passport control and customs to reach it, and hold a visa for Australia if you need one.
Worth paying more?
This is about fit, not price. On a connection, the shortest route to a bed and back is usually what you want.

Who it suits
Longer connections where you want a full hotel room and a proper meal.
Why we would choose it
It is 181 steps from the Terminal 1 check-in counters, by the airport's count, with nothing to catch. In our own stays the rooms have been spacious and quiet.
The compromise
You must be able to leave the terminal, and you pay for a full night however few hours you use.
Worth paying more?
Yes if you want a full hotel. No if you only need to sleep.

Typical total
A$215–A$505
Who it suits
Connections of ten hours or more, with a flight after 07:00.
Why we would choose it
A large hotel under a kilometre from Terminal 1 by one guide, and a long gap has time for the shuttle.
The compromise
The shuttle is paid and reported to run from about 04:30 or 05:00 to 23:00. A late landing or a dawn departure can fall outside it.
Worth paying more?
For most gaps we would stay at the terminal. Choose this only if the gap is long.
