Where to stay on an overnight connection at Dubai Terminal 1

The short answer: Stay airside if you cannot or would rather not clear immigration: Sleepover is a pod inside Terminal 3. For ten hours or more, a landside hotel costs less.

Who it suits
Connections of about six to ten hours when you cannot or would rather not clear immigration.
Why we would choose it
You stay airside in Terminal 3 Concourse C: no immigration, no visa question and no transfer. Blocks of 6, 8 or 10 hours, one adult per pod. From Terminal 1 you walk airside to Terminal 3, about 20 minutes.
The compromise
A pod, not a hotel room, for one adult. A couple needs two, so the price doubles. Fixed time blocks, not the hour.
Worth paying more?
For a gap of eight hours or less, yes. For a longer one, a landside hotel costs less if you may enter Dubai.

Who it suits
Connections of ten hours or more, if you may enter the UAE.
Why we would choose it
A full five-star with a free shuttle that the hotel says runs 24/7, a rooftop pool and a real bed. Cheaper than the airside pods in summer.
The compromise
You must clear immigration and collect your bags if they are not checked through. The travel eats two to three hours of the gap.
Worth paying more?
Yes for ten hours or more. Under eight, stay airside.

Who it suits
Long connections on a budget, if you may enter the UAE.
Why we would choose it
A free shuttle runs about every 30 minutes between Terminals 1 and 3. The lowest room price on the list in summer, for a gap long enough to use the time.
The compromise
A budget hotel with a shuttle on a half-hourly timetable, and the travel and immigration time to allow for.
Worth paying more?
Usually not for a short gap.
