Where to stay with a family before a flight from Melbourne Airport Terminal 2

The short answer: Stay at Holiday Inn. We have stayed there with young children. It is about five minutes' walk from the terminals, and per the hotel a free shuttle runs 24 hours. For a dawn flight, PARKROYAL's skybridge saves the walk.

Who it suits
Families with young children who want a proper hotel close to the terminals, with a restaurant and room service.
Why we would choose it
We have stayed here with our own young family. It is about five minutes' walk through the car park, and per the hotel a free shuttle runs 24 hours if you would rather not walk with bags.
The compromise
There is no pool, the rooms are described as slightly dated, and sources disagree on whether the shuttle is free.
Worth paying more?
Over Mantra, yes for most families. You are closer to the terminals, and the shuttle runs at any hour.

A covered skybridge to Terminal 2, about two minutes on foot, plus a pool. The hotel lists Family rooms.
The compromise
The most expensive here, and the hotel does not publish how many its family rooms sleep.
Worth paying more?
For a dawn flight with children, often yes. Otherwise Holiday Inn does the job for less.
