Western Sydney International Airport, known as WSI, opens to passengers on Sunday 25 October 2026. It is Sydney's second airport, and it starts small. This is what to know if your first flight from it is coming up.
Who is flying
The first passenger flight is Jetstar's service to the Gold Coast, leaving at about 11:00 on opening day. A few more airlines follow over the coming weeks and months.
| Airline | Route | Starts |
|---|---|---|
| Jetstar | Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane | 25 October 2026 |
| Air New Zealand | Auckland | 26 October 2026 |
| Singapore Airlines | Singapore | 23 November 2026, subject to approvals |
| Qantas | Melbourne, Brisbane | 28 March 2027 |
Emirates and Qatar Airways have approval to fly here but no start date yet. Only a few routes run at first, so confirm your flight really leaves from WSI and not from Sydney Airport before you plan anything else.
One terminal, open all hours
WSI has a single terminal for domestic and international flights, so there is no choosing between terminals. The airport can operate around the clock, with no curfew. That makes early and late flights possible, and it is why a hotel nearby matters.
Getting there
- By road. The M12 motorway links the M7 to the airport. It opened in March 2026 and is reported to be toll-free.
- By bus. A free WSI Link bus is reported to run from St Marys station about every 30 minutes, with services also reported from Penrith, Liverpool, Campbelltown and Leppington. We have not confirmed first and last runs, so check the timetable before you rely on it for an early or late flight.
- By train. The metro line is not ready. Reports put its opening in 2027 or later.
- By taxi or rideshare. We have not confirmed how pick-up works at the terminal or how easy it is late at night.
Where to stay
There is no hotel at the airport yet. The nearest places to stay are in Wallacia, St Marys, Penrith and Oran Park, and every one of them is a drive away. If you fly early, sleeping nearby takes the longest drive out of the morning. See our stays near Western Sydney Airport and pick the one that fits your flight time.
Is it cheaper than Sydney Airport?
Not automatically. A cheaper fare can disappear in the drive, and cheaper parking can cost you an hour. We built a calculator that compares the two door to door, from your part of Sydney, using fares, getting there, parking and time.
