Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport
Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is inside the airport compound, with a covered, level walkway that is landside, so you clear immigration and customs first. Rooms are described as soundproofed against the runway, and transit day rooms are sold in 3 or 6 hour blocks. One reviewer felt uneasy on a dark stretch late at night, so ask the hotel what it advises for a 1am arrival. The hotel is a business-style airport stay, not a beach stay.

HARRIS Hotel Kuta Tuban
HARRIS Hotel Kuta Tuban is the value pick. Booking.com lists its cheapest rate as including a round-trip airport transfer and a parking spot, and the hotel's own materials describe a free 24-hour shuttle with one departure an hour. Pick-up is just outside arrivals, often near the currency exchange. It is smaller and simpler than the chain hotels, so book the transfer ahead.

Best for: budget travellers and families who plan ahead. Lowest price, A$48 to A$59. The free transfer.
Which one if...
- Flight before 7am, or a 1am arrival: the Novotel. Nothing to wait for.
- Lowest price: HARRIS Tuban, by about A$57 a night at the low end.
- Family of four: HARRIS Tuban for the price, the Novotel for family rooms inside the airport. Both sleep up to four.
