Park, stay and fly at Melbourne Airport: which hotel packages are real

The short answer: Three hotels near Melbourne Airport publish a park and stay package: Holiday Inn, PARKROYAL and ibis Styles. Holiday Inn is the only one with its own secure car park on site. A package saves money on a long trip, but the airport's Value Car Park at about A$12 a day is hard to beat for a week away, so compare before you book.

Last checked · How we check

A park and stay package gives you a room the night before you fly and leaves your car at the hotel, or at the airport, while you are away. Melbourne has a few, and they are not the same.

The packages we found

Hotel What it includes Parking Extra nights
Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport Room for 1 night, then 4, 8 or 15 nights of parking Secure on-site car park, self-park, 24-hour shuttle to T1 and T2 About A$28 pre-booked, A$40 walk-in
PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport Room, one night of undercover parking, Wi-Fi, room upgrade Airport Short Term car park (T1, T2, T3 only), sky bridge to the hotel About A$59
ibis Styles Melbourne Airport Room, secure underground parking for up to 24 hours, free 24/7 shuttle Underground self-park Not shown
Mantra Melbourne Airport No package found Self-park, about A$29 a night, free shuttle on request About A$29

What the packages leave out

  • PARKROYAL and ibis Styles cover one night. If you are away for a week, you pay extra nights at the hotel's rate. At PARKROYAL that is more than the airport's own car parks.
  • Holiday Inn is the only one built for a long trip. Its packages run to 15 nights and the car park is on its own site, so you are not relying on airport car park availability.
  • The shuttle matters more than the car park. Holiday Inn and ibis Styles run a shuttle. See what to check before relying on a hotel shuttle.

What the airport charges

For comparison, we found these Melbourne Airport and nearby rates:

  • Value Car Park from about A$12 a day
  • Off-airport operators from about A$9 a day
  • Airport valet from about A$79 to A$84 a day
  • Qantas Valet at A$99 for the first day, then A$25 a day

When a package is worth it

A package earns its keep when you want the room anyway, for an early flight or a late arrival. If you need the hotel night, the parking comes close to free. If you do not need the room, a week in the Value Car Park will cost a lot less than the room, so book the car park alone.

For a short trip with an early start, compare the package with a room plus the airport's Short Term car park. For a long trip, price the nights and compare with the Value Car Park.
